It's only in the darkness
That I can see the light.
I can rejoice at break of day
When I've lived through the night.

I drink more free and deeply
When my throat is parched and dry.
My daily bread is not so sweet
When I'm full and satisfied.

To someone who has long been blind,
How lovely a rainbow appears!
And how majestic a symphony
Within once silent ears.

And it's only after earthly friends
Have hurt me, and laughed, and fled,
Through tear-filled eyes I can clearly see
That You love me, just as You said.
